It is proposed that the interim administration will take power on 22nd December 2001. The next step is for it to convene a Loya Jirga under the auspices of former King Zahir Shah. This will draw up a new constitution, and will choose a transitional government that will hold power for two years from 22nd July 2002 until elections sometime in 2004.
