OUR AIM

TO PROMOTE AND IMPLEMENT DEMOCRACY

The Democratic Party has been formed to counter the current denial of democracy by  existing major political parties.  Recent events in Parliament have shown that promises made to the Electorate at the last General Election have been cast aside by the Labour Government; Conservative MPs have used undemocratic practices to deny the will of the majority and Lib-Dems have voted against their own party policy.

A major objective of the Party will be to return to the original concept that a representative must answer to the electorate.  Where the will of the people is clear, the representative will vote in accordance with their wishes. If the people's decision is not known, then the representative will once again attend Parliament, listen to the debate and cast a vote according to his or her best judgement, without pressure from a dictatorship at the top! The Democratic Party will not have Whips to bully MPs into voting against their wishes.
