Conservative Party Referendum on the Euro
The result of the referendum on the Party Leader's policy to rule out joining the european single currency until at least the end of the next Parliament was announced on 5th October 1998.
The result of the ballot of paid-up Conservative Party members was:
Yes 170,558 (84.4%)
No 31,492 (15.9%)
Ballots sent 344,157
Ballots returned 202,674 (58.9%)
The Post Office failed to deliver 8,000 ballot papers.
