The Senate is partially renewed and new elections for this high chamber took place in regions 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11, only, in 1993.
In the elections for the Chamber of Deputies, the pro-Government parties won 70 seats and the opposition parties, 50. The figures for 1989 had been: 72 and 48, respectivelly. This time, the "Union of the Center-Center" formed a coalition with RN and UDI (Conservative opposition.)
